LT games with pre-defined start

I propose let each LT game has a pre-defined fixed start date (i.e. the date of start should be available before sign-up).

  • It could help to prevent a messy in the list of players.
  • It could help to prevent a messy in votings. - Each voting should starts at least* one week before start.
  • It could prevent a messy on this site.

What do you think about?

pre-defined start

It could be good idea, except:

It could help to prevent a messy in votings. - Each voting should starts a week before start.

Sometimes one voting depends on another .....

It's a good idea, because I assume that most 'idlers' are people who simply forget to check back to the site. If you know that there will be a fixed start date, people will know better in advance whether they have time to play or not. And there is a higher chance that they will become active around the time the game starts.

If you want to weed out idlers badly, you could also send an automated email every week which players have to click if they still want to play or are active or something like that.

I calculated sometime ago

I calculated sometime ago games lasted 10-14 weeks sometimes up to 16 weeks. So I would suggest a new game every quarter (3 months). This way we would be getting into the exciting stuff of the new game when the old game finishes.

On a lighter note, having the games every quarter offers some interesting naming conventions, such at Summer08, autumn08, winter08, and Spring08, or 08I, 08II, 08III, and 08IV, or 0801, 0804, 0807, and 0810.

I'm not against your suggest, but I find LT Forum much more active when there is no game running.
People then have time to discuss about the rules they would like to play with. Hackers get time to implement new features, etc...

That's no wasted time, even if everybody want to play more.

I like this idea. There's no

I like this idea. There's no reason to wait until one game ends to start voting on the next. And, there would be a game going on almost at all times.

The LT13 is an example why do we need pre-defined starts.
