LT XIV : Do you wish to keep on playing ?

I chatted with Edrim this morning.
He offered me to empty his cities so i could take it, saying Bkoltai had convinced him not to fight, and that some strong players allied ("the pack of wolves") to beat weaker ones...

???

There is no spaceship race. Only military victory.
And I don't want to steal cities, i want to earn (if possible) them.

So what's the interest in keeping on playing this tooo long game like this ?
Who agrees to stop it ?
Who wants to go on ?

End date

Why don't we set an arbitrary end date? I'd like to be finished playing this game by the end of June at the latest. Perhaps we could define a few potential victory scenarios, including out-of-the-ordinary options.

Ideas:

1. Only nation remaining (traditional military victory)

2. Highest score at enddate

3. First player to reach a certain score

4. First player to have a certain number of cities of a certain size

5. Total peace, all players victorious together

6. High score when all wonders are built

7. First player to control certain number of wonders

I don't know how any of these would play out and I'm sure we could create a number of other possible scenarios. I certainly hope the players of LTXIV are not about to simply quit after spending 5 months building up to this point. We still have at least 10 living players and a lot could happen before it's all through. I don't see any single nation as having the upper hand over all other nations at this point, and a number of us have almost equal scores. Perhaps a shift in the current alliances would add some dynamics to the gameplay and make modern civilization an interesting time.

I'm interested to hear what other players think.

No nukes!

definitively only option (1)

definitively only option (1) is ok for me.

I disagree to stop it. I

I disagree to stop it. I want to win or be defeated.

And I don't think it's tooo long. It's definitively the most interesting game since LT4 :).

The game was very

The game was very interesting to me, but it, unfortunately, turned into shorrturn game with 22 hours and 59 minutes long breaks between turns. I can't play shortturn games due to health reasons, and I couldn't handle XIV either. I tried my best, but it did not end well for me. Thus, I was forced to take sick leave of undetermined length - I tried to come back after few days of rest, but turned out to be impossible.
Health and other important things should be always before game - consider me RIP for purposes of quorum.

It's a really interesting

It's a really interesting game indeed, I love it even though I've probably been the weakest living player for a very long time. It's a pity to hear about your health Vonz, I think in these circumstances you still played an excellent game (we haven't met in the game, but I've heard quite a lot about your wars).

I'd say any player or group of players can be the winner if they are the only ones alive, or if all other living players accept them as winners.

If all other living players decide that the player with the highest score should be the winner, or if they use any other standard, then so be it. Clearly some players will only use the standard of military victory so they'd have to be killed before victory is achieved. As I see it every player is free to choose in what way they decide whether to accept someone as a winner or not.

Players or alliances who want to stake a claim for victory are free to make a post on this forum (in case of an alliance: please list clearly all players of the alliance). If they can list all living players as supporting their claim and nobody objects within a reasonable amount of time, they win and the game is over.

If this process takes too long we could consider to set an end-date, at which the player or alliance with a majority of support of all other living players can claim victory. But the end-date should be far enough in the future, I agree with Bkoltai that after months of building we should allow the game enough time to come to a satisfying conclusion.

The end game

My understanding is that longturn rules allow group victory in this game. But the Marduk ranking system does not.

A group can only win if all living players agree so that is the situation I am aiming for. I intend to win as a group. Obviously this means killing the other combatant players. But I hope that some of the neutral players will then agree to lose without having to be destroyed.

I too have enjoyed this game more than any of the others. The slower pace of tech research means we get to enjoy warfare at each stage of development for much longer than has been the case.

I hope that the move refill patch means that this is the last game to be determined by the player who plays TC the most.

TC Double Turn

Every person I speak to in ltxiv says they want to stop seeing the game outcome influenced so much by availability at turn change. Everyone agrees that double turn attacks are unfair to player who can't be online at turn change and says "If only Book's patch weren't so buggy, or we had some other solution."

How about a simple commitment to not abuse double turn attacks. There are not that many of us here and it's not like we're asking a commitment from 30 people. I think the nature of this particular game promotes defensive strategy and the I think gameplay will be more fun and varied with a chance to adequately defend 1 turn at a time.

I will not abuse the double turn.

Since I don't always check

Since I don't always check the longturn rss feed, and because it's annoying to sift through these comments for the relevant information, please use the longturn bug tracker for reporting any problems regarding the moverefill patch. That will at least put all the reports in one place and send me a notification email so I will have less opportunity to miss it.
