Currently Rule 10 of the site rules is
Quote:
Arbitrary players (with arbitrary win share) may be considered the winner of an LT game if they agree to it, and if all live players agree to it.
I suggest changing rule 10 into subsections:
Quote:
- 10.1- The only successful outcome of a team game is for one winning team; either by
- a) militarily defeating all other teams;
- b) arriving in the first spaceship;
- c) for all opposing live teams to have surrendered (if all live players agree to it).
-
10.2 In all other games arbitrary players (with arbitrary win share) may be considered the winner of an LT game if they agree to it, and if all live players agree to it.
Shall we change the rules for team games?

hm....
Well, proposed version leaves no room for surrender of other teams. I think the goal of this modification is to make one and only one team a winner of a team game, but I don't think a full defeat of other teams should be required?
Surrender is allowed
OK I will change the wording to allow for the condition when the other teams surrender.
If you have cast your vote already you are welcome to change it now the wording has changed.
BTW I don't intend these new rules to apply to either games currently in progress or retrospectively to games in the past. BUT I would like these rules to apply to LTXV. So Maho can we be flexible on the vote duration and end this vote before LTXV starts.
So Maho can we be flexible
I don't see anything wrong if voting will end after LtXV start.
spaceship
A minor point (maybe obvious) - a team can also win via spaceship.
but it's obvious, isn't it?
but it's obvious, isn't it?
re: but it's obvious, isn't it?
No it isn't. The space race is currently disabled.
We would need to vote to enable it again.
Kevin,
I agree with the spirit of the new rule you expose, but the 10.1 sentence is to complicated and does not take into account the spaceship victory -and i think it should.
Look at the actual rule : It is simple and clear and does not care about how people win, but only who wins.
Could you arrange the 10.1 sentence in this way ? (i have nothing in mind right now, as my brain is still flooded by alcohol after a good meal :)
Simple, Clear, and Covering all Possible Endings.
Sokrat you make good points. I agree a simpler wording is better. And it does need to cover all situations.
The spaceship victory is another winning scenario that I had overlooked (Sorry Mrsynical I thought your comment about spaceships was intended for Ben and the pacifist team). Unfortunately the original victory condition now 10.2 also fails for spaceship victories. I don't want to rewrite that part of the rules just yet. But I do want the new rules to cover all possible endings in a team game (for LTXV), so I will rewrite 10.1.
Everyone who has already voted please note that I have changed the wording, adding a sentence to cover spaceship victory.
Possible Endings
I'm sure everyone remembers, the rules of Sid Meyer's Civilization state that you can win by conquering the world, settling alpha centauri, or surviving until the end game in 2000AD.
Considering my interest in a pacifist team, I'd like to introduce the idea of setting yearend to 1800AD (T275), giving us exactly 9 months of play. MrSynical asked me how we could possibly win as pacifists, and I explained that if we have the high score at yearend, that would make us the winners. This gives us a realistic goal to work toward and a chance to sit upon Marduk's list of glorious and most celebrated rulers.
I can't imagine there have been any games yet where people have survived that long in the face of onslaught, and I think it's completely possible. Can anybody speak to the longest a game has lasted up to this point?
Time limited ending. High score wins.
I agree.
I would like the choice of a time limited game.
But I don't want to add it to this vote.
This vote emphasizes that in a team game only one team can win. There will have to be other votes to change other specifics of the rules.
As for game length, the few longturn games I have been in have finished very fast. Long before AD was reached. LTXIV seems set to be the longest so far. (no teams, no diplomacy, no caravans). But even this game is unlikely to reach as far as 1800AD.
