poll suggestion

I am not signing up for this game but I suggest a poll to decrease the # of mountains and hills. A defense unit on a mountain is almost impossible to kill especially if it is in a fortress or city. The mountain cities usually survive until the nuclear warfare.

Seems you cannot see a polls unless you have signed up. I presume if you can't see polls, you wouldn't be able to create new polls unless you have signed up...

Maybe the restrictions on who can create/see/vote could be relaxed ...

You only need to sign in to the site to make a poll. Anyone logged on the site can make a poll for this game. I think it would be a good idea if the restriction was that you had to be signed up for the game to make a poll for it.

No, I don't think it's neccesary. At least - only members of given game can vote, so nothing will be changed against their will.

Hidden diplomacy

We are playing now a lonewolf-game, diplomacy is disabled by the rules. As I understand from poll discussion it's more for excluding some cheating-like winning strategies rather than disabling any peaceful contact.

So I want to make things clear, is it normal to make verbal-based agreements with players or not?

Yes it is it normal to make verbal-based agreements

I think the point of a lonewolf-game is to encourage players to play alone rather than forming groups. Allowing diplomacy means players can win just by forming a very big alliance. That is not a cheating-like winning strategy. A lonewolf-game is just a different variant that will require different strategies.

Talking to other players via chat, email, at work is assumed and encouraged.

Even with diplomacy turned off there are many ways to work together. You can't formally ally and it will be extremely difficult to share tech so I don't see big groups forming but we'll see. Temporary 'alliances' have already been discussed. For example some of us will band together to attack whoever gets the GL.

That can be one of the most interesting games ever. just think about that:
1. Maho`s path with 100% victim lose = no advanced(and expensive) tech trade
2. removing possibility of double turn fort building = finaly turn change gives no advantage(if i miss something please correct and add poll to solve that too)
3. no diplomacy = together with point 1 - finally FFA game
4. warroutes = everyone can improve own eco, make science faster and... take risk that the neighbours will make temporary band against common enemy...
Isn`t this great? If i miss some feature which can destroy that game please make a poll to solve that too.

tech loosing patch

When I use the lt18 settings for a personal game against the AI, I get errors on ltgive and ltrecv. Is the tech loosing patch available for us to install?

you can find the original longturn patch within the svn source of longturn (howto and password see http://www.longturn.org/ltex-s... - revision 5315); I think you have to load the entire source code to get this patch ...

or you could use the patches for freeciv mainline (version 2.2 or trunk):
