LT11 amongst others has seen a spaceship victory. LT12 is presumably also going to see one.
I do not judge spaceship victories or question their ability to pinpoint the players that deserve to win.
However, disabling spaceship victory may lead to a more satisfactory game because it requires an unconditional surrender from everyone in the game. Also, disabling the spaceship may make the game less of a race to the endgame, and instead make the early phases of the game more valuable and hence interesting.
Spacerace = 1 enables the spaceship victory and is the default setting and also the one used in LT11 and LT12. Spacerace=0 disables it.

I expect that the game will
I expect that the game will be much longer without the spacerace. But yes, I hate spacerace as well. You should fight not fly.
However, It may end in a long game with global warming or nuclear winter. Spacerace is a way how to end the long draw game.
Maybe researchcost should be increased in this team game.

you are not right, spacerase is not prolonging game too much ... I think in LT10 it was case of 1 or 2 turns, in LT11 the game would be 2 turns longer without spacerace ... disable wonders (spcialy issac, setti and marco) if you want to make game longer (other wonders are not that strong).
I will vote against the
I will vote against the space race.
My reasoning is that I think the coding for the spacerace in freeciv is incomplete, hence I find the outcome unsatisfying.
The code in spacerace.c and spacerace.h has not really been updated in the last 9 years. Some features have been left out and various bugs have been left unfixed.
For instance the server will crash on year of arrival. I believe this happened with both LT10 and LT11. This is a reported bug in freeciv 2.1 as well.
A spacecraft travelling in the period BC will arrive really fast because the code mistakenly uses turns not years. In the BC period one turn spans many years. This was due to be fixed many years ago according to the comments in the code, but as we saw in LT10 it never was.
The fusion power technology is left unused in freeciv. It was originally added to copy Civ2. Fusion power gives a speed boost to your space ship in Civ2.
Spacerace adds possibilities
I don't see how getting more posibilities to win the game is a bad thing, and just for the record longturn has always been a race for the end game.
I won't be playing this game, but I think this seems like people who only wants to fight think Space race is boring.
